Stayed here during the weekend of 6-7th December. Was there with my family and partner's family. We were there for our wedding and needed a hotel not far from the venue and with enough rooms to accommodate our large family. Also we were told that during our stay it could get noisy until midnight as Christmas parties were happening. The rooms were nice + cosy, water pressure in my room was very good and the old beams and interior architecture was very cool. It's an old building with a lot of history and you can feel it, but the rooms themselves are clean and warm like any good inn or hotel. From check-in to check-out, the staff were exceptional. Every member at the check in desk was polite, professional an friendly. The young woman (I believe her name was Hinata but I don't remember so forgive) and another gentleman were so helpful and answered all our questions. Any requests we made (such as using the parking lot or holding luggage) were accommodated. The noise didn't bother us and we appreciated being informed about it before our stay. On our check-out Vicardo (I believe his name was) told us all about the inn's history, showed us the downstairs dungeon with items and costumes from Dick Turpin. He even told us all about his native Portugal and gave us a new found love and understanding of Fado and Portuguese Folk music. Thank you so much to Vicardo and the team, you guys really made the stay special.

We had our wedding in Rose and Crown on 30th August. All staff are very helpful. I was getting stress in the morning and the receptionist gave me the assurance that everything is on hand. Communication is great as well during planning. I definitely recommend them. Thank you to Rose and Crown.

Fantastic staff, lovely rooms, not the best location for shops or leisure but a lovely comfortable inn. Only downside is they do not serve bar food and they are a cashless premises .

As we wanted to visit Colchester, this hotel was an option, free parking and at the time of booking free breakfast as well. We arrived early around 10am, you have to register your vehicle and take note the parking is in 24 hour time slots, we were asked if we would be okay leaving by that time if not book in as a day longer. Our room was in the new part of the building, you had to make our way through the old part, which is very old, talk is Dick Turpin used to stay here. Room was clean and tidy, comfortable bed, nice bathroom with good shower over a bath, all the extras you might expect were available. Breakfast in the morning is served on the ground floor opposite end to the hotel bar. We were offered fresh tea and coffee and our hot food orders were made up fresh as well, nice selection of cold options available all in a nice location, they no longer offer dinner in the hotel so you will have to walk into town which is a good 20 minutes and there is a hill to go up before you get there. I would happily stay here again.

We only stayed here for just one night. Whilst the building and history is amazing, the room we stayed in smelt of damp and needed airing. The evening bar was open from 5 - 10.30pm, which was a shame as we went to a concert and got back to the hotel just past 10.30 and couldn't get a night cap, lost revenue for them really. The breakfast was very good and a good choice

Staying at Best Western The Rose and Crown Hotel has been a great experience, and one that cannot really be beaten in terms of value for money either. Located roughly 15 mins walk from Colchester city centre, the hotel is located far enough from the city centre that you won’t be disturbed by the night life of it were to come about. There is free complimentary parking at the hotel (if spaces are available), and there are also lots of shops and restaurant options nearby. The room was nice and spacious, with the bed being very comfortable. The room had nice coffee making facilities, a TV with free view channels, but the bathroom… that was very nice! The rainfall shower and large bath were very much appreciated after a long day out on my feet! The staff were all really friendly and helpful, though I would like to give special thanks to Daniel, Hitomi, and James for their kindness and hospitality.

Had a lovely stay on Saturday. Beautiful 4 poster bed. Comfortable and huge. Found the room to be relatively quiet, which is exactly what we wanted. Breakfast was plentiful, but eggs and bacon were slightly overdone to our taste. The only criticism I can give is that there were a large group of guests that had been to a wedding the previous day, and they were exceptionally noisy at breakfast. So much so that we ended up walking out before finishing our meal. Might have been more acceptable if the staff had asked them to keep it down a bit.

What a lovely experience staying at The Rose & Crown in Colchester! The hotel is set in a gorgeous 600-year-old building, full of character and original features like timber beams. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout my stay. I really enjoyed the breakfast—especially the gluten-free choices, which were much appreciated. My room was quiet, clean, and very comfortable. It’s a perfect spot for anyone who enjoys a bit of history combined with great hospitality. Would definitely stay again!
